Oppose the injustice of abortion

Bloomington Herald-Times, January 16, 2009

To the editor:

When observe Martin Luther King Day, we honor a man who opposed injustice and demanded that people be judged on the content of their character, not the color of their skin. We have made a great deal of progress in fulfilling King's dream.

Many people will gather at the Monroe County Courthouse on Sunday, January 18 at 2:00 p.m. to protest another injustice: the 50 million babies who have been slaughtered by America's abortion industry since 1973. The anniversary of Roe v. Wade is a sad one, and the ongoing tragedy is a great shame to our nation.

As we approach the 36th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that threw out state laws against killing unborn babies, I encourage the Bloomington City Council to stop funding the local branch of America's #1 abortion provider. That Bloomington's Planned Parenthood became mired in a sex abuse scandal with the release of an undercover video from LiveActionFilms.org should be enough reason by itself to cut off the flow of corporate welfare to this abortion clinic.

On January 18, come to the Rally for Life and support the dream where all people - including the unborn - have equal protection under the law.

Scott Tibbs.
