Joe Biden's deplorable behavior on PPP loans

By Scott Tibbs, September 9, 2022

When Marjorie Taylor Greene spoke out against "forgiving" student loan debt, President Biden took to Twitter to shame her for having Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans forgiven. This is not unusual in politics. Accusations of "hypocrisy" fly around constantly from both sides. What makes this deeply unethical is that this was not posted from Joe Biden's campaign account, but from the official White House account. Biden is using official government resources for partisan political purposes, and that is the real scandal.

But beyond the misuse of the White House social media accounts, what other government resources were used? Did Biden instruct White House staff to search through government records to find if his enemies in Congress have had PPP loans forgiven? How much employee time - paid for by the taxpayers - was spent doing this? How much money was spent? Congress needs to investigate this behavior and demand a full accounting of exactly what government resources were used to launch a partisan political attack from official government accounts.

People need to realize just how serious this is. Will the White House and federal government employees be combing through government records to find any little thing that can be used politically against their enemies - or worse yet, using that info to blackmail members of Congress who are speaking out? This is fully corrupt and Congress must hold the President accountable.

Of course, the PPP and student loan forgiveness are different programs with different premises. PPP existed because local and state governments forcibly closed businesses all over the country and the federal government compensated those businesses for the loss of income brought on by quarantine orders. This was a bipartisan program with wide support among both parties. That is not the same as the premise behind student loan forgiveness.

Furthermore, PPP was passed by Congress and signed into law by the President. Student loan "forgiveness" was implemented unilaterally by Biden, who is now engaged in an insurrection against the constitutional and statutory limits on his authority as President. The authority to spend money resides in the Congress, not the Executive Branch. Biden knows this, but ignored the law in order to throw some money at his most devoted political supporters.

Finally, this once again shows that the entire premise of the Biden campaign two years ago was a complete and total fraud. Biden was supposed to be the anti-Trump: Someone focused on governance and not invested in petty Twitter squabbles. Biden was supposed to be the President of all Americans, not just those who voted for him. Anyone who has followed Biden for any length of time knew better than to believe him, but it does not absolve Biden of responsibility for running a campaign based on deceit and repeatedly breaking his promise to be civil. The weaponization of the federal government is deeply corrupt and sets a terrible precedent that Democrats will regret.
