MGTOW, burning and bitterness
By Scott Tibbs, August 13, 2021
The primary problem with the "men going their own way" (MGTOW) movement is that virtually none of them are sexually pure. God gave men a powerful sex drive, and also provided an outlet in the form of the marriage bed. The Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 7:8-9 that if we cannot contain our sex drive and are falling into impurity, then we must marry rather than burn.
But there is a secondary sin present in MGTOW and the "Red Pill" movement, and that is bitterness. These men are "woke" to the oppression of feminism, and like the intersectional coalition they see themselves as oppressed by the system. There is virtually no one at this point who cannot claim victim status and then use that victimhood to demand reparations or justify their own bitterness against their oppressors.
But bitterness harms the victim much more than the oppressor. As Doug Wilson said, bitterness is like eating rat poison and waiting for the other person to die. Jesus warns of the eternal danger in bitterness when He says that those who do not forgive their neighbor will not be forgiven by God. Hebrews 12:15 warns that many are defiled by a root of bitterness. This includes bitterness against women in general, the judges, and church officers.
Yes, there are women who are shrews. Yes, many men have been deeply hurt by wicked women and the authorities who enable them. But God does not desire men to live a life of bitterness and despair. Wallowing in bitterness and having no faith that God can provide are both sins. Not only do these sins manifest against others and harm the sinner, but they are sins directly against God. There are many good women and many good marriages.
MGTOW cannot exist next to a genuine trust in God and His faithfulness. There is no marriage that cannot be restored, no heart that cannot be changed, and no church that cannot be reformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. At the heart of MGTOW is a conviction that God is not omnipotent and cannot provide what He commands in His word. That is the spirit of the Devil, not a Christian discipline. Be strong, have faith, forgive, repent of bitterness and trust Almighty God.
