Thanksgiving 2009

By Scott Tibbs, November 26, 2009

A few verses from God's holy Word for Thanksgiving:

  • Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. -- 1 Chronicles 16:8

  • Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name. -- Psalm 18:49

  • Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. -- Psalm 30:4

  • Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. -- Psalm 75:1

  • Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. -- Psalm 106:1

  • But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. -- 1 Corinthians 15:57

  • Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. -- 2 Corinthians 2:14

  • Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. -- Philippians 4:6

  • And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. -- Colossians 3:17

  • In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. -- 1 Thessalonians 5:18

This Thanksgiving, I look to God with awe and gratitude, for He has blessed bountifully. Professionally and personally, God's blessing has overflowed. It would be a mistake to give myself any glory, for everything I have is a gift from God's hand. Most importantly, when this vapor of a life is over, I have the unmerited grace of Jesus Christ to cover my sin that makes me deserving of everlasting torment in Hell fire. Jesus Christ humbled himself to be born in a stable, lived a life of humility and then died on the cross to forgive me of the sins I have committed against Him. Praise His name!
