More on the Leftist "bait and switch" regarding
the Obama infanticide scandal

By Scott Tibbs, August 25, 2008

The Leftist spin machine in high gear, still attacking me for my letter to the editor questioning Baron Hill's endorsement of Barack Obama, given that Obama had defended infanticide in the Illinois state legislature. While Leftists are again trying to muddy the waters and confuse the issues, the truth is really simple.

Barack Obama's opposition to legislation that made it illegal to kill a baby that survives an abortion and is born is well documented and has been exposed in many articles from many credible sources. In endorsing Obama, Baron Hill endorsed a candidate who has defended infanticide. So, I wrote a letter to the editor about it. I didn't know the bill numbers - and I should have spent more time documenting all of that information. That was my fault, and made me vulnerable to the Left's dishonest "bait and switch" game.

When my LTTE was published, two people in the comments intentionally ignored SB1093 and SB1095 and pretended that my letter was about the IBILA. It wasn't - they introduced the IBILA as a red herring intended to distract from the truth about Obama's voting record. Nonetheless, I was deceived because I did not prepare properly. Had I prepared properly and educated myself on the details, I would not have been deceived. Instead, I would have been able to call them out on their lies when my LTTE was published. I have no one to blame for that but myself.

My letter to the editor on August 11 had absolutely nothing to do with the IBILA. I had never even heard of the IBILA before my LTTE was published and commenters started spreading their lies. I was deceived by the Left's dishonest "bait and switch" game, so my posts from August 13 and August 22 contained incorrect information about the IBILA. Again, this is my fault for not being prepared for the onslaught of lies from the Left.

Because I was unprepared for it, the dishonest "bait and switch" worked, and I was fooled. I made several incorrect statements about the IBILA. But now, the entire house of cards local Leftists have so carefully built has come crashing down, and the truth has been exposed. Barack Obama opposed SB1093 and SB1095, both of which made it illegal to kill a baby that survives an abortion and is born.

In other words, my blog posts on July 11 and August 8, along with my letter to the editor on August 11, were completely accurate and referred to SB1093 and SB1095, both of which made it illegal to kill a baby that survives an abortion and is born. Like I said before, I did not have a perfect grasp on the details and bill numbers, but the basic facts were completely accurate. My posts on August 13 and August 22, written after I was deceived by the Left's dishonest "bait and switch" game that began in the HTO comments section on August 11, contained several incorrect statements about the IBILA. Remarks by Leftists about "time travel" are designed to distract from their brazen lies regarding Obama's opposition to anti-infanticide legislation.

Following is the Summary of SB1093, one of the bills that Obama opposed:

Deletes everything. Amends the Illinois Abortion Law of 1975. Provides that no abortion procedure that, in the medical judgment of the attending physician, has a reasonable likelihood of resulting in a live born child shall be undertaken unless there is in attendance a physician other than the physician performing or inducing the abortion who shall address the child's viability and provide medical care for the child. Provides that a physician inducing an abortion that results in a live born child shall provide for the soonest practicable attendance of a physician other than the physician performing or inducing the abortion to immediately assess the child's viability and provide medical care for the child. Provides that a live child born as a result of an abortion shall be fully recognized as a human person and that all reasonable measures consistent with good medical practice shall be taken to preserve the life and health of the child. Effective immediately.

Obama also voted against SB1095. See the summary of the bill below:

Amends the Statute on Statutes. Defines "born-alive infant" to include every infant member of the species homo sapiens who is born alive at any stage of development. Defines "born alive" to mean the complete expulsion or extraction from the mother of an infant, at any stage of development, who after that expulsion or extraction breathes or has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been cut and regardless of whether the expulsion or extraction occurs as a result of natural or induced labor, cesarean section, or induced abortion. Effective immediately.

SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1

Provides that a live child born as a result of an abortion shall be fully recognized as a human person and accorded immediate protection under the law.

Caught in his own lies, some now claim that "Obama didn't even vote on Illinois SB1093 and SB1095." That is a brazen and easily disproven lie, via the Illinois legislature's Web site. Screenshots from the PDF that records how each state senator voted on SB1093 and SB1095:

As the National Right to Life committee points out:

Voting "present" was a tactic recommended by the local Planned Parenthood lobbyist; under an Illinois constitutional provision a bill is deemed passed only if it receives an absolute majority of the sworn members of the House or Senate, so the operative effect of a "present" vote is the same as a "no" vote.

In other words, Barack Obama voted against banning infanticide. That's a fact.
