To the Editor:
The 2008 Rally for Life will be Sunday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. This annual event is to show support for the most vulnerable members of society who cannot defend themselves and have no legal rights: unborn children. There are 1.2 million babies killed by America's abortion industry every year in the United States alone, a shocking number of over 3,200 abortions every day.
I urge everyone who opposes abortion to attend this rally. For a small slice of your Sunday afternoon, you can make a big statement: that there are many people in Monroe County who believe abortion is wrong and needs to stop. How many people in Bloomington even know that the Planned Parenthood performs abortions every week at their clinic on South College and receives an annual subsidy of your taxpayer dollars from city government?
While the coverage of the 2006 event was good, there was no reason to ignore the Rally in 2007, especially given the advance notice. The Herald-Times was notified of the 2008 Rally for Life in December, so there is no excuse not to cover it, especially since the H-T routinely covers much smaller events. Don't drop the ball this time.
