Jim Billingsley for County Council!

My friend Jim Billingsley filed to run for Monroe County Council this week. I have known Jim for almost seven years now, when we served together in the Monroe County Taxpayers Association. I voted for him when he ran for State Representative in 2002. Unfortunately, I cannot vote for him this year, because I do not live in his district. Here are the County Council filings as of yesterday at 4:00 p.m.

  • District 1: Vic Kelson (D)
  • District 2: Jim Billingsley (R)
  • District 3: Marty Hawk (R), Mark Stoops (D)
  • District 4: Bill Hayden (D)

I live in the "donut hole" district in the middle of Bloomington Township, a district which also takes a few precincts in Perry Township. I believe the number designation for my district is 4. District 3, with two incumbent County Councilors set to face off, will be very interesting.

I expect that incumbent Sue West will file in District 1 this week, which leaves the GOP without a candidate in District 4. I hope the GOP finds someone to run. They have two and a half days to do so, as the filing deadline is Friday at noon.
